Drag as an art and a culture has been gaining ground in the past few years, and Wig shines an even brighter spotlight on this performance art. It covers New York’s annual Wigstock event, which heavily influences drag to this day. The film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, features some household names, including Lady Bunny, Charlene Incarnate, Naomi Smalls, William Belli Kevin Aviance, and Neil Patrick Harris. Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding is a period drama that is also an unlikely Boys’ Love (BL) series set in Korea’s Joseon Dynasty. It focuses on the complexities of homosexuality and the culture of being transgender in Korea’s colorful history. It tells the story of a noble man, Ryu Ho-seon, whose politically arranged marriage to Hwa-jin, took a turn when the former realized his bride was actually a man. The man is Choi Hwa Jin’s brother Choi Ki Wan, who explains his sister despises arranged marriages and runs away. Ho Seon wants to fulfill his mother’s dying wish, so he conspires with Ki Wan to put on the charade. But then, their little ploy turns real as both men realize they are starting to fall for the other.
