What is Fiber Always On?
Fiber Always On is an new service from PLDT Home that keeps you connected even during unexpected fiber outages. It comes with a new 2-in-1 hybrid modem capable of delivering both Fiber and LTE connections. The back-up LTE automatically activates only when Fiber is unavailable, ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted experience without you needing to do anything. Additionally, the service automatically creates a priority service request for repair, so you won’t have to call to report the concern anymore.
Why do I need Fiber Always On?
Fiber Always On offers convenience during unforeseen outages caused by factors like construction work, extreme weather, or maintenance. The service automatically switches to
the back-up Wi-Fi on the same 2-in-1 modem, keeping your devices connected without needing to change networks or log in with a new ID and password.
The system also generates a repair request for faster resolution and with a priority handling, ensuring your internet is restored quickly without the hassle of manual follow ups. Enjoy a smooth, hassle-free Wi-Fi experience, no matter what.
Why are there Fiber outages?
Fiber outages can happen due to various unforeseen reasons, including:
- Road Digging or Construction: Fiber cables can be accidentally cut during excavation or roadwork projects.
- Vehicle Accidents: Cars or trucks may crash into utility poles carrying fiber cables, causing damage.
- Tree Trimming or Falling Trees: Trimming activities or storms causing trees to fall can damage overhead cables.
- Natural Disasters: Earthquakes, floods, or landslides can disrupt or damage fiber infrastructure.
- Heavy Equipment Operations: Cranes, drills, or other machinery can accidentally sever underground or overhead cables.
- Rodent Damage: Fiber cables can be chewed by rodents.
- Utility Work: Maintenance on water, gas, or electricity lines may accidentally interfere with buried fiber cables.
- Fire Damage: Fires near utility poles or cable facilities can damage fiber lines.
- Unintentional Human Error: Workers in other industries may unknowingly disrupt fiber connections while performing unrelated tasks.
- Scheduled maintenance: System upgrades or maintenance can occasionally cause temporary outages for the improvement of your service.
PLDT continuously work to minimize these disruptions and restore service promptly.
Who can avail of Fiber Always On?
Fiber Always On is available to existing PLDT Fiber customers who:
- Are outside their lock-in period
- Have no outstanding balances
- Reside in areas with strong LTE signal
It's important to note that while there may be strong LTE coverage in your area, it is essential that there is sufficient LTE signal strength within your home to ensure the Always On backup Wi-Fi works effectively. If your home is located in an area with a good LTE signal outside but weak coverage inside, the service may not provide optimal performance. This service is being gradually expanded to include customers within their lock-in period and new customers.
How much does Fiber Always On cost?
The service is ₱299 per month. It includes a new Wi-Fi6 modem with Unli Fiber and Unli LTE – there is no need to load or top-up the LTE service. This ensures you have seamless backup Wi-Fi connectivity, keeping you online even if your Fiber service experiences a temporary interruption.
Where can I apply for Fiber Always On?
You can apply via these sales channels:
- PLDT website
- 171 Customer Care Hotline
- 170 Express Upgrade Hotline
- PLDT Sales and Service Centers (SSCs)
A PLDT agent may also call you to offer the service.
Can I still use the UNLI LTE even if my Fiber is active?
You will not be able to use LTE when Fiber is running. The modem always prioritizes Fiber, and only one service—Fiber or LTE—can be active at a time. LTE will only activate when the modem detects no Fiber signal. Once Fiber is restored, the modem will automatically switch back. If no Fiber signal is detected, the modem generates a repair ticket, notifying PLDT to contact you for repair.
Can I use my UNLI LTE on a different device?
No, the modem can only use either the Fiber service or the LTE backup at any given time—both cannot be active simultaneously. The LTE SIM is embedded in the Fiber Always On modem and cannot be removed or used in other devices. If you attempt to remove the SIM, it will trigger a repair ticket, notifying PLDT of a potential issue with the modem.
Will I be locked into a contract if I avail Fiber Always On?
Yes, availing Fiber Always On will add 36 months to your lock in period.
What is the speed of my back-up Wi-Fi? Why LTE and not 5G?
LTE is used instead of 5G because it’s more widely compatible with devices, and the modem supports CAT6 for faster speeds.
The Actual speed will depend on factors like signal strength and your home's layout. Thick walls, lack of windows, or other obstacles can impact signal quality. Our team will help ensure the modem is placed in the optimal location during installation for the best performance.
I already have an existing modem, why do I need a new one for Fiber Always On?
Your current modem does not support the Fiber Always On service. The new 2-in-1 hybrid modem provided has both wired Fiber and wireless LTE capabilities present in a single device – a special feature designed solely for this service to work.
What is a Wi-Fi6 modem? What is CAT6?
Wi-Fi6 is the latest wireless technology designed for faster, more reliable internet, especially in homes with multiple connected devices. It minimizes network congestion, supports higher speeds, and ensures smoother experiences for streaming, gaming, and work. This makes it perfect for handling the demands of modern households.
CAT6, on the other hand, is a category of LTE technology supported by the Fiber Always On modem. It enhances LTE backup performance by enabling faster data speeds and greater reliability. CAT6 technology combines multiple LTE frequencies, providing more stable speeds during Fiber downtime. Together, Wi-Fi6 and CAT6 ensure that Fiber Always On delivers seamless, high-quality connectivity, even during outages.
Can I bring my new Fiber Always On modem to a different address?
The new modem is tied to your PLDT Home Fiber account and registered installation address. Taking the modem out of your home or moving it from its designated location may violate the terms of use and can trigger a service repair ticket. To ensure uninterrupted service, the modem should remain at the registered address.
Will my Cignal service and Landline work when connected to LTE?
No, your Cignal TV Box and landline will not work when the LTE backup is active, as they are connected to the Fiber service which will be inactive and unrecognized during the outage. However, other devices connected to the Wi-Fi Mesh will continue to function normally, ensuring that your home remains connected via backup Wi-Fi.p>
How will I know that my LTE signal is working? Where exactly can I see it?
Fiber cuts are due to many reasons such as extreme weather events, construction work, vandalism or theft, and scheduled maintenance and system updates.
