AB_9 Iconic Songs from Movie Soundtracks We’ll Never Forget

Soundtracks extend a film’s story beyond the screen and create a lasting effect that the audience can feel even after the credits roll. Fans can’t rewatch their favorite films all the time, but they can certainly put the soundtrack on loop to easily take them back.

Tunes that make up some of the best soundtracks of all time!

Sometimes, the soundtrack themselves become immortalized; some even outlive the films they were featured in. Here, we listen to some of the most enduring songs from beloved films you can stream seamlessly with the fastest, unlimited internet speed offered by PLDT Home Fiber!

“I Will Always Love You”

Artist: Whitney Houston (Original by Dolly Parton)

Movie: The Bodyguard (1992)

When this film and its soundtrack dropped, young women everywhere thought it would be a great idea to have a professional bodyguard as a boyfriend, especially if that bodyguard was as hot as Kevin Costner. The song itself is integral to the storyline. It is the hit song of singer-actress Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston), who, after receiving death threats from a stalker, hired Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) to be her titular The Bodyguard. Stream the film on HBO Go with PLDT Home!

“Dreaming of You”

Artists: Selena, Jennifer Lopez

Movie: Selena (1997)

The film and its soundtrack are as tragic as they are beautiful, narrating the true story of Mexican-American pop star Selena, who was shot and killed by a fan after confronting said fan in a business deal. The song itself became immortalized as the late Queen of Tejano Music’s most iconic song. Every time fans hear the song, they remember the tragic end to the life of a prolific and talented young artist.

“I Say a Little Prayer”

Artist: Diana King (Original by Dionne Warwick)

Movie: My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997)

Who would’ve thought a supposed harmless prank between two friends would lead to one of the most iconic musical moments in a non-musical film? When George Downes (Rupert Everett) told a fake story of his love story with Julianne Potter (Julia Roberts), he ended with singing Diana King’s version of I Say a Little Prayer. Unexpectedly, the entire restaurant they were dining in joined in the singing gleefully.

“My Heart Will Go On”

Artist: Celine Dion

Movie: Titanic (1997)

The highest-grossing film of all time also has one of the most iconic soundtracks ever. Fun fact: Titanic director James Cameron initially didn’t want a soundtrack for the film, but changed his mind when the composer James Horner gave him a sample of Celine Dion’s recording. One of the rare instances when the notoriously meticulous filmmaker changed his mind, and we’re glad he did!

“Let It Go”

Artist: Idina Menzel

Movie: Frozen (2013)

A song about breaking stereotypes perfectly matches director Chris Buck and writer Jennifer Lee’s reimagining of the classic Danish fairytale Snow Queen. In the original story, the titular Snow Queen is a malevolent entity who kidnaps a boy and traps him in her snow palace. In Frozen, she’s reimagined as a reclusive and misunderstood princess with powers who’s had enough of playing good girl, so she just…well, lets it go.

“This is Me”

Artist: The Greatest Showman Cast

Movie: The Greatest Showman (2017)

P.T. Barnum may be regarded as one of the greatest swindlers of all time, but 20th Century Studios’ toned-down retelling of his story, and the songs that came with it, endeared themselves to movie fans. Regardless of what people might say, a song about “freaks” stepping out into the light of day resonated with anyone battling their own insecurities. Though acceptance for anyone who’s “different” still has a long way to go, creative works like these put us a step further in the right direction.

All the Stars”

Artists: Kendrick Lamar feat. SZA

Movie: Black Panther (2018)

Destiny is written in the stars, at least according to this song. Black Panther is the most racially literate entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the late Chadwick Boseman (RIP +) brought justice to his role as T’Challa, Kendrick Lamar and SZA brought justice to the soundtrack with their enthralling tunes and lyrics.

“Sunflower”

Artists: Post Malone and Swae Lee

Movie: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Listen closely to the song, and you can easily glean it’s about a person recovering from an abusive relationship. Like a sunflower, that person will shine again, just like Miles Morales getting over the death of his uncle and realizing the value of family. An alternate version of the beloved Peter Parker, Morales’ Spider-Man’s kindness, heroism, and wits endeared him to fans who look forward to him joining Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Earth-616.
