The Korean wave known as Hallyu has taken the world by storm, with original content ranging from music to films to streaming being consumed by cultures worldwide. Hallyu has found its way into the zeitgeist and won’t be going away anytime soon. For many of us, Korean drama has become a guilty pleasure that helps us cope with the demands of reality. We all have that friend who binge-watches a Korean drama like crazy on Viu Premium with PLDT Home. If you don’t have that friend, perhaps it’s you!
What makes Korean drama so effective?
Many of us might be wondering, what makes Korean drama so effective? Is it the characters? Story? Actors? All three? Or maybe it is some mysterious phenomenon our generation still has no word for? While some dismiss the genre as a romantic fairy tale where characters never get acne or a bad hair day, K-drama loyals can see beyond the superficial.
They see K-dramas as stories of love and triumph. More than an avenue to escape the unreasonable daily demands that life and our bosses throw at us, K-drama teaches us how to hope. It teaches us that hurdles are just part of life; they will always be there. What’s important is we believe in ourselves and that we will eventually get through and emerge victorious, just like the main characters in Viu Original’s Korean drama-inspired romantic comedy, K-Love. Let’s talk more about it!

Meet the cast of K-Love
Tish (Iza Calzado) is a strong independent career woman who is desperate to find her “happily ever after” as she fears time has passed for her. Her world turns upside down when her former flame Jay (Jake Cuenca), returns to her life. Tish’s best friend Sheila (Isabelle Daza) is a single and attractive businesswoman in her 40s. However, Sheila’s age makes her feel insecure and irrelevant.
Frances (Gabby Padilla) and Val (Sue Ramirez) are two hopelessly romantic; K-pop obsessed best friends waiting for their “Oppa.” One day, Val meets an attractive guy (RK Bagatsing) who makes her question whether love happens in real life like they do in K-dramas. Together, these characters explore the difference between love plays in fictional materials and in real life in this story inspired by the anatomy of K-dramas and what makes them draw in people. K-Love was created by former Marvel Cinematic Universe digital content director and certified K-pop fan Corinna Vistan. Vistan draws inspiration from her own experience and knowledge of Hallyu. Its storytelling is heavily inspired by Korean drama — from camera shots and angles, lighting, color grading, characterization, editing, and story beats. But the story forwent any pretentious nature and grounded itself on Filipino culture. K-Love will be streaming in 16 countries across Asia. Vistan says the show is a tribute to Hallyu, an all-Korean drama fan all over the continent and, maybe, later on, even the world. Watch K-Love on Viu Premium with PLDT Home!
