The 2022 American Music Awards, streamed exclusively on Lionsgate Play in the Philippines, was an amazing night of celebrating the music and artists that made an impact this past year, chosen by the most important critics in the industry—the fans. From outstanding live performances to passionate acceptance speeches, here are our favorite highlights from this year’s AMAs!
Taylor Swift can’t stop winning
Taylor Swift wins big! She’s a winner of multiple awards this year, including Favorite Pop Album, Favorite Music Video–and, of course, the biggest one of the night–Artist of the Year! She also didn’t miss an opportunity to thank her fans for not only making her music collection a definitive success, but also for her happiness.
Dove Cameron’s heartfelt speech and performance
The winner of Favorite New Artist gave a touching acceptance speech, taking the time to promote organizations like GLAD and The Trevor Project. She also dedicated her win to the queer community she loves and loves her just as much. Dove also performed her hit single Boyfriend later that night, showing why her fans catapulted her as this year’s Favorite New Artist.
Wayne Brady pulls double duty
The improv icon proved he’s not just a comedian but a multi-talented performer–he served as part of the opening act with Orianthi, then freestyle-rapped with DJ D-Nice. His rap was inspired by words the host had just gotten from the audience live. Wayne Brady is a true example of #DualThreat as tonight’s host of the AMAs.
Pink gets a standing ovation TWICE
Already opening the night to a standing ovation with the debut of her newest song Never Gonna Not Dance Again, Pink also gave a loving tribute to Olivia Newton John by giving a heartfelt performance of the Grease star’s romantic ballad Hopelessly Devoted to You. Pink definitely made her mark in this year’s AMAs.
Anitta’s AMA debut performance with Missy Elliot
The Favorite Female Latin Artist winner made her AMAs debut by performing her hit single Envolver and was joined by the legendary Missy Elliot for a rendition of their hit song Lobby. The two superstars definitely tore the roof down with this performance!
A celebration of the icon, Lionel Richie
Performing a sing-off for ages, Charlie Puth and Stevie Wonder performed the hits of the legendary Lionel Richie, celebrating the multi-platinum discography of The Commodores standout. From Three Times a Lady, Easy, Brick House, and All Night Long, before ending with a joint performance with other artists to sing We Are the World, this celebration of Lionel Richie’s music truly befit the icon that he is.
