What is two-factor authentication?
Mostly referred to as 2FA or two-step verification authentication, two-factor authentication is a process that provides users with two factors for proper verification. This process provides a higher level of security than other single authentication processes, which usually come in form of passwords or passcodes.

When you bring 2FA into the equation, it builds on passwords with a security token or a biometric factor like facial or fingerprint scans. I personally use an iPhone that uses a facial recognition feature–more convenient, in my personal opinion.
Why not just use a really elaborate password? That is a good question, but realistically speaking, the average user has more than five accounts to keep. If you have a 10+ character password that includes symbols and numbers, you may find yourself in a pickle remembering. This is why people reuse the same password, or at least the same password but in different variations. Once a hacker takes that from you, they might be able to access all your accounts.
Do you need two-factor authentication?
The short answer is yes, an astounding yes! Why give hackers a small window of access when you can guarantee security with 2FA?
