Freelance work, like any other job, requires everything you need to ensure you deliver your work seamlessly–including fiber-fast home WiFi. You may have the right hardware for what’s required, but do you have the apps and other services you need to collaborate with clients more efficiently? We recommend the following tools, especially if you’re just starting the job!

You’ll want to add these to your freelancing arsenal!

Personal Task Management

If any of your clients don’t use an internal task management system, you can utilize a number of free productivity apps so you can stay on top of your deliverables.

Most freelancers swear by Notion for its robust features and capabilities, but its learning curve can be intimidating. Todoist is a great alternative, especially for personal accountability. The app allows you to group all your tasks together based on your projects, so you’re freed from the guesswork of tagging and categorizing. Best of all, you can integrate it with your Amazon Echo device!

If you prefer to keep things simple and straightforward, there’s always Tweek. Its interface is intuitive enough, even for new users–all it takes is listing down your tasks for the day,

File Storage

On a personal note, one of the first things I invested in as a freelancer was cloud storage. I needed a repository for all my work files, not to mention a long-term solution to keep all my data safe and secure.

Enter Google One. If you’re already a Google Workspace user, upgrading your current Google storage is absolutely worth it. Google One also allows you to back up all your device data seamlessly. Their plans start at ₱889 annually for 100 GB across all their services.

If you’re an Apple user, upgrading your iCloud storage might make more sense. Its cross-device accessibility makes it much easier to switch from your iPhone to MacBook, saving you time from emailing or Airdropping that file you need.

Payments

Of course, your freelancing toolkit won’t be complete without an online payment platform. Paypal is the most popular option for international remittances and is a proven and trusted option for money transfers. Wise, meanwhile, offers faster and more reliable remittance services from over 40 countries outside the Philippines. Both payment options allow you to receive funds directly to your Maya account, making your online transactions more seamless!
