What is a dual-band modem?

A dual-band modem is one that broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz WiFi bands.

What is the difference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi bands?

The difference between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz connection are speed and range. The 2.4GHz works best for larger homes that require greater coverage area. The 5GHZ has a higher transfer speed and works best if the connected device is placed near your modem.

What is the recommended distance/range for 2.4GHz and 5GHz?

The recommended distance for 2.4 GHz is up to 150 feet indoors. For 5 GHz, it’s up to 50 feet indoors.

Which frequency should I choose – 2.4 GHz or a5 GHz?

If you have a device that does not move around and is located near your modem, we recommend you connect to 5GHz. If you have a device that moves around your home a lot such as cellphone or laptop, we recommend you set this device up to 2.4GHz band.

Does the modem automatically steer to the best available frequency band?

No, but both SSID names of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHZ bands will be displayed in your device’s WiFi list. You may choose to connect to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHZ.

How do I connect to the frequency band I want?

Both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands will be displayed in your device's WiFi list. You just need to connect your device to the Wifi Network you preferred.
