The 74th Emmys opened with a tribute to TV theme songs, with comedian and ceremonies host Kenan Thompson dancing along. The crowd went wild when the original cast of hit ’70s TV show The Brady Bunch were introduced, who were seated together in the audience.
HBO received the most wins at this year’s ceremonies, with 10 Emmys in total. Out of the network’s streaming titles, Succession earned the most nominations, the most of any series this year. In addition, the drama was awarded Outstanding Drama Series, which it also won in 2020.
Meanwhile, miniseries The White Lotus garnered 20 nominations, while Hacks and Euphoria received 17 and 16, respectively. Hacks’ Jean Smart won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the second straight year. Zendaya, who stars in Euphoria, is also the youngest person to win the Emmy for Outstanding Leading Actress twice.
HBO was a leading contender for the Emmys in 2019 and 2020. Along with accolades from this year’s Creative Arts Emmys, HBO brought home 26 combined wins from both ceremonies, honoring both the creative and technical aspects of American television.
Sheryl Lee Ralph, who won the award for Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, sang part of her acceptance speech that brought the crowd to their feet. She is also the second black woman in Emmys history to win this category. Watch her show-stopping performance here:
