After 12 years of mixed feelings, the beloved League of Legends game is no longer under the Singaporean-made Garena. It is rightfully under their developer Riot, which began earlier this year in 2023. The migration was smooth; nothing spectacular had gone around for Garena before its demise; it was just regular ole business. However, the PH player base shared their excitement because this change meant something new and hopefully responsive. But is this the case?

New and big changes are in store for PH League servers. The question now, for now, is, “How’s it doing?”

Follow through as we discuss the recent changes Philippine League of Legends, a.k.a. LoL.

Scuffed download. January 6 was the mark of open servers for LoL—awesome, right? Most eager players couldn’t download the game due to some missing dependency. Initially, it was thought to be the client's vanguard hindering the game launch, so a fresh install was thought to be needed, but this wasn’t the case. Players had to launch LoL itself instead of launching it from the client, and from there, the game should finish the download. It wasn’t a big hindrance, but it didn’t paint LoL’s migration a good color.

After a day or so, this issue was resolved and allowed players to game normally.

Weird matchmaking. Another issue that arose was the weird lobbies in games. No, this is not your “Leeroy Jenkins” screaming Zac player, but just odd-matched players. To be more specific, high-leveled players were matched against or with new players. This resulted in awful games for both sides because none saw eye-to-eye. It might be normal to have one to two games like this, but a few Redditors shared that they had massive loss streaks of up to five games. To put it in perspective for those who do not play LoL, five games can amount to 3-4 hours, affecting a player’s mental.

Let it simmer. It isn’t all bad; these things are expected to happen when dealing with migration. After all the dust has settled, the main benefits that players will get from this are the following:

  • Draft Picks and Clash game modes to be available for SEA players
  • Speedier updates
  • Easier region transfers via shards
  • Reduced skin Gacha banners, a.k.a less money spent on in-game skins
  • Unlocked skins via in-game chests that were previously unavailable
  • Riot-managed LoL events

If you want to experience an uninterrupted, smooth League experience, your Internet should also be updated. If you are keen on doing so, PLDT Home’s Fiber Plus Plans are here to provide you with that speedy experience. Additional upgrades are possible through ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX11000, ensuring your gaming sessions are optimized.
