Nowadays, everyone has a cellular phone for communication, information gathering, and gaming–mobile gaming has made itself a home in this portable device. With literally millions of people enjoying their phones, the younger generation has made it almost necessary to have at least one mobile gaming on their device to pass the time. Actually, even the older generation has also come to enjoy simple games.

A game is a game, no matter what platform!

But the question now arises, “Are mobile gamers actually gamers?” With the prominence of PC and console gaming, there appears to be a general opinion that they aren’t. Is this truly the case? Let’s find out.

Entertainment, plain and simple. What is gaming? If searched online, they answer “something played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a television or other display screen.” Does mobile gaming adhere to this definition? I think so. Gamers enjoy games to pass the time, escape, and delve into a different world.

The gaming mediums are very different, so why should mobile gaming be singled out? It still checks out all the ticks of being a “video game.” At its core, gaming is about interactive entertainment. Mobile gamers engage in various forms of interactive gameplay, just like players on other platforms.

It’s too easy. Is it really? It can be argued that mobile gaming is “easy.” In reality, they can be surprisingly challenging. Titles like "PUBG Mobile" and "Mobile Legends" require quick reflexes, strategic thinking, and teamwork, showcasing that mobile gamers develop valuable gaming skills just like their console and PC counterparts.

What makes it difficult is its small screen and “ergonomic” controls. Playing solely with your screen is difficult compared to MKB (mouse and keyboard) and console. Your fingers and hands aren’t the only things affected, as your posture may weigh in for long gaming sessions. With someone with terrible eyesight, I cannot squint for long game sessions, let alone 30 minutes—it's difficult for my eyes.

Oh, and the back posture tends to be worse when hunching over your small cellular phone.

Gaming Communities. Mobile gamers often participate in online gaming communities, discussing strategies, sharing tips, and connecting with fellow enthusiasts. These communities foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie, mirroring the social aspects of traditional gaming.

This points to the professional scene. It may not be as big as your CS:GO tournaments or League of Legends, but they have their own mobile gaming stars. Mobile esports is a thriving scene and definitely garners a more reachable demographic since everyone has a mobile phone and can participate.

Gaming is gaming, ‘tis what it is. Mobile gamers are unequivocally gamers in their own right, sharing many commonalities with other gaming communities. They invest time, effort, and passion into their chosen titles, just like their console and PC counterparts.

The stigma against mobile gamers often arises from misconceptions and biases rather than a genuine lack of gaming commitment or skill. It's crucial for the broader gaming community to recognize and embrace the diversity within gaming. Mobile gamers bring unique perspectives and experiences to the table, enriching the gaming landscape as a whole.
