It’s no wonder we can’t help ourselves from rooting against him. The portrayal by Javier Bardem is even made more impressive by how he is, thankfully, the complete opposite of his character. Agent Smith is supposed to be a program in The Matrix. It's a bunch of code that’s just doing its assigned task. But in the hands of the amazing Hugo Weaving, Agent Smith becomes more than that. There’s venom in his tone, satisfaction in his accomplishments, and a level of condescension that we can’t wait for Neo (Keanu Reeves) to kung-fu out of him. The Mission Impossible franchise has had many villains, but none more memorable than Owen Davian. Philip Seymour Hoffman delivers a menacing performance opposite Tom Cruise and creates one of the few villains in the franchise that can match Ethan Hunt. Hoffman’s delivery of threats in a soft but assured voice sets up the film's stakes from the very start and allows the rest of the film to keep you on the edge of your seat. Lord Shen (voiced by Gary Oldman) may not be the most physical threat that Po (voiced by Jack Black) has faced, but Lord Shen is arguably the most intelligent.
