We decided to pick one series that aired its final episode this year, and one that aired its first—and our pick for the latter is The Last of Us.
The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal, immediately established itself as one of the best shows that came out this year, netting multiple Emmy nominations. Based on the massively popular video game of the same name, The Last of Us is both a treat to fans of the game and a revelation for newcomers to the story. Succession (Series Finale)

For our pick of a drama series that aired its final episode, it has to go to Succession. It’s been months since the final episode aired, and we’re still reeling from the fact that there won’t be any more new episodes covering our favorite dysfunctional family. Though other great shows similar to Succession have allowed us to cope more easily, we just can’t help but revisit the show that gave us the craving to begin with. Pulse-pounding action adventures premiered aplenty on HBO Go this year. Any of DC’s offerings of comic book movies that premiered on HBO Go this year—Shazam: Fury of the Gods, The Flash, and Blue Beetle—or the extremely successful Top Gun: Maverick could have easily taken the spot as one of our favorite action titles, but our pick has to go to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. We immediately wanted to learn how to play D&D, play video games heavily based on D&D mechanics, and even just watch other people play it—all stemming from our love of this movie. And Just Like That… (Season 2)

A lot of titles that premiered on HBO Go delivered the laughs this year, with Jo Koy’s Easter Sunday and Ticket to Paradise starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts deserving honorable mentions for laugh-out-loud and romantic comedies. However, our pick for our favorite comedy this year is none other than the second season of And Just Like That… Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda dealing with more mature topics with their signature wit was a perfect recipe for a great season. However, we went with the animated title that perfectly mixed the humor, adventure, and themes for audiences of any age, and that’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. With one of the most memorable antagonists put to screen, animated or otherwise, and a cast of characters we couldn’t help caring for, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is an animated title you can rewatch multiple times and enjoy like it’s your first time seeing it.
