The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is an annual event held by Apple to showcase the new software and technology we should expect from its next generation lineup of products. In WWDC23, Apple revealed its first new major product since the Apple Watch back in 2014 — the Apple Vision Pro.
What is the Apple Vision Pro?

The Apple Vision Pro is being touted as an AR and VR headset that uses spatial computing to its fullest capabilities. Like all AR and VR headsets, it augments reality by
creating a user interface that blends in with the physical world or allows its users to interact within immersive virtual realities.
Spatial computers utilize physical actions such as eye movements, hand movements, gestures, and speech, then turn those into inputs for the device to produce the desired output within the augmented or virtual world.
What will set the Apple Vision Pro apart from other AR/VR headsets?

VR headsets currently available on the market are heavily focused on the gaming capabilities of the technology; meanwhile, AR glasses have the functionality of smartphones. In contrast, the Apple Vision Pro is being advertised to be as powerful and capable as personal computers. That would allow us to free some space on our desks, as the traditional mouse, keyboard, and monitor
set-up is no longer necessary. We can even free ourselves from using desks entirely thanks to its portability and two-hour battery life when not plugged in.

The Apple Vision Pro also claims to do away with the additional controllers most VR headsets use to interact with the environment. Thanks to its new operating system, visionOS, Apple purports that the multiple cameras and sensors will be able to detect
your eye and hand movements and interpret them as commands without the need of extra controllers or accessories.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly to some, it’s an Apple product. Apple has the reputation of applying design and functionality that will be intuitive and easy-to-use for its customers. It’s the reason why Apple has the cult following that
it does.
One such feature of the Vision Pro that definitely had the consumer in mind is EyeSight. This capability controls the headset’s outer display to show the user’s eyes when it detects a person in front of them and even lets those around them
know if the user is using apps or fully immersed in a virtual experience. It may seem small—but with this feature, users need not take off the headset and put it on again just to have a quick conversation with other people and not seem rude.
It’s these little details that prospective buyers will appreciate in the long run if they decide to purchase the Vision Pro currently valued at $3,499 (roughly P197,000).
According to Apple, the Vision Pro will be available in their US locations by early next year. We have yet to confirm its Philippine release, but stay tuned for updates!
