Are you in the market for a new computer, but can’t decide between a desktop or a laptop? We’ve compared these two machines and shown their respective pros and cons to help you identify which one is better suited for your needs.

Choosing between a desktop and a laptop can be hard. Fret not, we’re here to help.

Luckily, choosing the right Internet for your home is not as complicated as picking between two machines. Be sure to check out PLDT Home’s Fiber Plus Plans powered by the Philippines’ undisputed fastest Internet for five straight years.

As a die-hard desktop user, it pains me to say that laptop computers have a clear advantage over desktop PCs. Laptops are portable and take up less space compared to conventional desktops. Furthermore, a laptop is good to go right out of the box, thanks to its built-in components, namely, your input devices (keyboard and trackpad), as well as output peripherals (display and speaker). All of these would need to be bought separately if you decide to go for a desktop.

Given the advantages that laptops have to offer, it’s easy to see why most people prefer them over their more robust counterparts. This is evident in the 2022 market research conducted by the International Data Corporation, where laptops outsold desktop PCs by more than 2:1.

Since laptops come with pre-built components, you’d be forgiven for assuming that laptop computers require less upfront investment compared to desktop PCs. After all, you would need to purchase peripherals to go with the desktop computer, right?

Comparison and contrast

Here are two similarly-priced computers (under P17,000) from the same store. The one on the left is a pre-built desktop computer and the other is what you’d typically expect from an entry-level laptop, regardless of the brand and model.

The desktop offers more bang for the buck because it has more RAM, storage, and a larger display compared to the similarly-priced laptop. And since this is a bundle, the desktop also comes with a mouse and keyboard, negating whatever advantage the laptop has in this aspect.

It’s worth noting that this trend also applies to higher-end models. The table below shows two personal computers that have a sticker price of around P250,000 from the same store. such as ease of repair, more upgrade options, and better longevity, to name a few.

Which set-up will you choose?

At the end of the day, choosing between a laptop and a desktop really boils down to your personality and preference. If you’re the type of person who requires mobility and wants a fully functional computer, then a laptop should be your go-to option.

However, if you don’t mind having to shop around for various components in order to get the most out of your PC–not to mention customize every aspect of your computer to fit your needs–then a desktop is the way to go.

Regardless of which machine you end up with, be sure to pair it with the fiber-fast Internet connection by subscribing to PLDT Home Fiber Plus Plans.
