Wouldn’t it be nice to go back to when things were much simpler? Technology may be a huge part of our lives today, but it’s still nice to look back on life in analog.
Every day can be Throwback Thursday when you watch these nostalgic K-Dramas on Viu!
Luckily, we can travel back in time together with Viu Premium conveniently charged to our PLDT Home bill! Let’s relive the ’80s and ’90s with these four K-Dramas!
Go Back Couple
Go Back Couple kicks off with Choi Ban-do (Son Ho-jun) and Ma Jin-joo (Jang Nara) at the breaking point of their relationship, giving up all hope in their marriage and family life. Thanks to a strange occurrence, they travel many years back—specifically, to 1999–and find themselves meeting again for the first time as university students.
What stands out in this K-Drama is how real it gets. Instead of an exaggerated hatred for each other, the mutual disdain actually comes across as valid. Throughout the series, both Ban-do and Jin-joo learn how to focus less on themselves and more on each other. They also discover empathy, communication, and consistency along the way—precious lessons they must learn, no matter what year it is. Stream Go Back Couple on Viu Premium with PLDT Home.
Youth of May
Youth of May is a poignant, beautiful, and emotional story set amidst the Gwangju Uprising, a period of political unrest in South Korea in May 1980. The series highlights the love story of Hee-tae (Lee Do-hyun), a medical student, and Myung-hee (Go Min-si), a nurse. They grow closer and fall in love despite their differences, even as they navigate the chaos surrounding them.
Youth of May opens up our eyes to many of life’s realities and how they have the power to change us in the long term. Much like in real life, difficult choices have to be made—and the character’s strengths arise in the midst of internal and external adversity. Stream Youth of May on Viu Premium with PLDT Home.
18 Again
18 Again narrates the story of Dae-young (Yoon Sang-hyun), a middle-aged husband and father, who travels back in time to his eighteen-year-old self (Lee Do-hyun). He decides to start a new life and give his family a second chance at happiness.
This K-Drama is loosely based on the Hollywood rom-com 17 Again. Fans of the film may recognize certain scenes originally from the film, but the show’s creators adjusted certain elements to make the show stand out on its own.
One of the more noteworthy aspects of this drama is Dae-young’s relationship with his wife, Da-jung (Kim Ha-neul). The couple learns empathy together, having a greater understanding of what it’s like to walk in each other’s shoes. As the show unfolds, we also see a glimpse of the sacrifices Dae-young and Da-jung make to keep their family together.
18 Again also comes with a Tagalog dub on Viu Premium, so you can enjoy the show in a language closer to home! Stream 18 Again on Viu Premium with PLDT Home.
Melting Me Softly
Melting Me Softly is a light-hearted romantic comedy with a dash of sci-fi. The drama follows variety show producer Ma Dong-chan (Ji Chang-wook) and young part-timer Go Mi-ran (Won Jin-ah) as they wake up from a 24-hour freezing experiment that has mysteriously gone wrong. Now 20 years later, they try to adapt to the times—despite looking and feeling as they did in 1999 before volunteering for the program.
While the drama requires some suspension of disbelief due to its fantastical nature, Melting Me Softly grounds its plot by giving us a chaotic peek at the ups and downs we experience in our lifetimes. Dong-chan and Mi-ran teach us that we only need that one person in our lives to love and support us, especially during the toughest of times. Stream Melting Me Softly on Viu Premium with PLDT Home.
