Ever watched a movie about man’s best friend and ended up feeling like you fell into a trap? Seriously, the moment you get attached to the very good boys and girls, they turn the film around and kill off the dog to turn you into a weeping mess by the time the end credits roll. It has happened to me so many times that I’ve all but sworn off animal shows and movies unless I’m assured that they all live happily ever after.
Stream for your peace of mind
If you’re a pet owner like me who can’t resist animal shows, here's a list of titles you can stream on HBO Go and Viu Premium (powered by PLDT Home!) without worry.
Mighty Mike

This super cute animated series follows a pug named Mike and his everyday adventures as he tries to impress their neighbor’s dog, Iris. Unfortunately, his plans fail almost every time because he gets too busy trying to save his home from furry intruders—two racoons named Freddy and Mercury.
What’s great about the show is that each episode is only about seven minutes long, so you can binge watch the entire season (76 episodes) fairly quickly. You’ll be laughing out loud at all the trouble Mike and his fellow pets (Fluffy the Cat and turtles Athos, Portos, and Aramis) get into, and be reminded how equally headache-inducing and heartwarming it is to care for pets. Stream Mighty Mike on HBO Go with PLDT Home.
A Dog Year

Jon Katz is a 50-something writer battling writer’s block and dealing with a mid-existential crisis. Impulsively, he decides to adopt a once-abused border collie named Devon even though he already has two labrador retrievers. Despite the problems he encounters with his new pet, Jon does not give up on Devon and their relationship transforms in meaningful and unexpected ways.
A Dog Year tells a beautiful story about healing and it perfectly encapsulates the kinship that humans develop with animals. It’s a feel-good movie inspired by a true story, and one that animal lovers should not miss. Stream A Dog Year on HBO Go with PLDT Home.
Dogs are Incredible

This Korean variety show has no shortage of adorable canines in every episode, but it’s also an informative watch for pet owners who want to learn how to train and care for their dogs properly. It’s hosted by South Korea’s “Comedy King” Le Gyenggyu, so you know it’s entertaining, but the practical and helpful tips by dog expert Kang Hyungwook will keep you watching. Stream Dogs are Incredible on Viu Premium with PLDT Home.
Ginza Cat

This quirky Japanese series features an almanac of stories. “Step into the alley in front of you. You see a different view by taking an unfamiliar path. That could be the view you have longed to see,” says the narrator in the intro.
Each episode begins with a black cat leading people—who are troubled or worrying about something—inside shops and restaurants all around Ginza. The humans are pleasantly surprised that they find what they are looking for in these establishments, brightening up their lives in the process. Stream Ginza Cat on HBO Go with PLDT Home.
