The Academy Awards has a history of not including acclaimed movies in its roster, and 2023 was no different. Sure, there were so many wonderful films on the list, but it would have been more remarkable if these titles were also included. If only the Academy Awards would increase its number of nominees per category, these would indeed be recognized as well.
Here is a list of the movies available on HBO Go and Lionsgate Play that, although they may have missed an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, indeed scored in the hearts of everyone. So plug in your PLDT Home Fiber Plus Plan and relax and watch!
The Northman

Alexander Skarsgard is determined to avenge the death of his father (Ethan Hawke) in Robert Eggers' lavish Viking epic reworking of "Hamlet," and in the process, engages in incestuous behavior with his mother (Nicole Kidman). Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson,
and Bjork, Anya Taylor-Joy, a previous collaborator with Eggers, also appear in the film.
What it could have won:
Even if The Northman’s shirtless and fur-clad savage howls might not appeal to all Academy voters, the movie's realistic aspects are astounding. With hundreds of extras and a writer-director who calls himself a perfectionist, The Northman is both historically correct and intricately shot. This movie could have also won awards for best visual effects or sound mixing. Stream The Northman on HBO Go with PLDT Home!
KIMI

Stephen Soderbergh's KIMI, frequently compared to a futuristic "Blow Out," depicts the tale of Angela Childs, a software company employee who learns about a crime through the titular A.I. system.
What it could have won:
Soderbergh hasn't been nominated for an Oscar since 2001, but his highly regarded 2022 thriller attracted a lot of critical accolades (most of them positive). Steven Soderbergh's KIMI is a straightforward but satisfying genre exercise that uses
its agoraphobic heroine to ask what people should do with their paranoia now that practically everything is out in the open. Stream KIMI on HBO Go with PLDT Home!
Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend
Lionsgate Play
Courtesy of Lionsgate Play
Lamborghini chronicles the long life of the renowned entrepreneur - from the production of tractors at the beginning of his career to the design and construction of the Lamborghini cars that finally characterized his profound legacy" during World
War II.
What it could have won:
The Academy loves biographies such as Lawrence of Arabia and the Sound of Music, so it was pretty surprising that Lamborghini wasn’t thrown into the mix. It could not only have been a shoo-in for Best Picture with its historical overuse
of colors and time elements but could bring the Best Actor for Frank Grillo, who played the legendary Lamborghini. His stare and brooding eyes could already penetrate a worthy acting
award.
Plus, the movie also stars award-winning actors Gabriel Byrne and Mira Sorvino, so it couldn’t get any better than this. Stream Lamborghini on
