Patricia Hizon - sportscaster and television host

Patricia Hizon: The Good Life, Online

For Patricia Hizon -- in-demand host, author, sportscaster, blogger, marketing head for a big utilities company, associate executive director for PhilPop, and charity advocate -- multi-tasking is a way of life.

She attributes her success to three things, primarily the teamwork between herself and husband Vince in everything, from scheduling time with him and their two boys, running their household, helping him run his business, and charting a stellar course in her multifaceted career.

“Without us working together, it would be next to impossible to do the things that I want to do if I didn't have a husband who is able to catch me every time I need a boost, or I need help,” Patricia explains.

Patricia is Superwoman to Vince’s Superman, but she shares a secret: like anyone else, she would like to sleep in, have long weekends, and get more ‘me’ time. What gets her out of bed? “Dedication; it takes a lot of that on my part! I can't be myself just sitting down and doing nothing because I'm dedicated to giving the best that I can in all aspects of my life,” she shares.

Patricia also gets a lot of help from technology, saying, “With it, everything becomes easier.” With technology, she keeps abreast with what’s happening in her office, gets the information she needs for whatever she’s currently working on, and communicates with those she needs at any time. “Wherever I am, I become the central nervous system of all the operations of everything I’m involved in,” she says.

“I am able to teach my kids and keep the learning environment at home a lot more interesting because of Internet access”

How the Internet strengthens family ties at home and beyond

The Internet is an indispensable tool in Patricia’s life. “I believe that Internet access opens opportunities for people like me who want to have very full lives. I save time because I no longer have to go to many different places to do my work; I just need my home office and my Internet connection. People like me are accomplishing a lot more now thanks to better Internet access,” Patricia declares.

Particularly women like herself, Patricia adds. She encourages mothers to become Internet-savvy, as it has helped enhance her relationship with her sons Vicente and Paul. “I am able to teach my kids and keep the learning environment at home a lot more interesting because of Internet access,” she says.

The Internet is also especially important for their scattered family: Patricia’s father is in South Africa; her mother and siblings are across Canada; and Vince’s family is in different parts of California. By necessity, the Internet “…is part of our growing as a family and bonding with our loved ones. In fact, it's what can enhance that family bond experience, especially for those whose families are across the world.”

Bonding, made better with the Internet

Closer to home, she and Vince have major bonding activities that require the Internet: maintaining their golf website Mulligang.com, streaming the movies they watch, and learning together via instructional videos. “Sometimes, even when he’s traveling, he’ll call me and ask me to look at a video of an amazing shot,” she says.

Their kids watch soccer videos—and even clips of Daddy when he was in the PBA! It’s a unique bonding experience that is enhanced when Vince shares with them the cartoons he loved as a child—now available on the Internet.

“I think Fibr is one of my biggest weapons,” Patricia muses. “There's no need to sit around and wait for things to download or to buffer. Also, if you want to be able to communicate better with your children, improve how you teach them at home, and explain to them how life is, it's better to have a continuous stream of information which you can get when you have the most powerful broadband connection.”
